“Serendipity” is an art piece created to bring happiness, support, and mental health awareness to its audience. Serendipity is in two-phases with the first taking place at the exhibition. The piece is made up of 200 unique handmade clay sculptures that are painted in yellow with gold leaf. All the heads are fixed to a multiplex board and accompanied with an uplifting quote. Serendipity refers to the occurrence of events by chance in a happy way. Therefore, for the second phase of the art piece, I will travel through the Netherlands freely giving out each of the heads and the inspirational quotes that accompany them. The route I take is determined by the areas with the highest number of mental health disorders. The separate unique heads represent the struggles that we as individuals go through. By giving them out, I hope to extend a hand to others and bring about a sense of togetherness. The collective of heads represents the coming together of individuals despite our differences and the happiness that comes from knowing you are not alone.
