I work with clay, a material I am still exploring and learning to understand. After years creating with other materials, I turned to clay and was captivated by it, drawn to the qualities that continue to fascinate me. The tension between control and unpredictability, refined surfaces and rough textures, and planned forms versus what the material allows, continues to draw me. I am fascinated by its geological origins: volcanic activity and mineral composition over millions of years create the clay I use and shape what it is capable of. These characteristics, combined with how the material responds to shaping and manipulation, guide the forms I create, resulting in pieces that echo natural systems in their growth, adaptation, and subtle irregularities. The pieces are organic and asymmetrical, not always aesthetically “perfect,” but revealing resilience and possibility. Some are sculptural, while others are designed for practical use, each shaped through experimentation to explore the limits of the material, reflecting growth and persistence even in extreme or challenging conditions.

Driven by curiosity about the microcosms of nature and forms that often go unnoticed, my work aims to invite closer inspection, encouraging viewers to engage their curiosity and discover beauty in unexpected places. In this work, I see a reflection of resilience: the capacity to grow, adapt, and persist even in seemingly insurmountable circumstances, in both the natural world and in ourselves.
